Official Search and Request Channels

For Broomfield state court hearings, start with the Colorado Judicial Branch Docket Search. It is a free public docket tool for court date and hearing information, not a complete scanned-document system. Select Broomfield County, Broomfield Combined Courts, the 17th Judicial District, or the court type when those details are known.

The Colorado Judicial Branch Record/Document Request Form is the main path for copies of case documents, certified or exemplified copies, divorce decrees, complaints, sentence orders, probate letters, tickets, and Registers of Action. Use this page for hearing lookup first, then use the records request form when a copy of a pleading, order, decree, or disposition is needed.

1. Decide whether the record is a court date, full case document, criminal history, police report, municipal ticket, recorded document, or marriage record.
2. For hearing information, open Docket Search and choose Broomfield County or Broomfield Combined Courts with a date range and at least one additional filter.
3. For case documents, open the Record/Document Request Form, select Broomfield County, add party names, and choose the document type.
4. For online case summaries, use CoCourts, which provides paid Register of Action searches for eligible Colorado cases.
5. For municipal tickets, call Broomfield Municipal Court at 720-887-2100 or email courtaccess@broomfield.org.
6. For police reports, accident reports, body-worn camera video, and local background letters, use Broomfield Police Records instead of the court clerk.

Broomfield County Court Records Search Fields

Colorado Judicial's docket tool requires a date component and at least one non-date filter. Broomfield users can search by court location, case number parts, party name, business name, or attorney information. A broad name search may miss cases if names are misspelled, sealed, suppressed, confidential, or outside the system's public display rules.

The court document request screen appears on the Colorado Judicial Branch record request form.

That form is the better channel for certified copies, document copies, and records that are not displayed in a public docket search.

Types of Broomfield County Court Records

Broomfield state court records are divided between District Court and County Court at the Broomfield Combined Courts. District Court handles felony criminal cases, civil cases in any amount, divorce and other domestic relations matters, juvenile, probate, mental health, and some appeals. County Court handles misdemeanors, traffic infractions, small claims, civil limited matters, protection orders, and felony preliminary stages.

Broomfield Municipal Court is a separate local court channel at the same Descombes Drive campus. It handles municipal ordinance matters, including city traffic, parking, animal, code, and misdemeanor ordinance violations. Police reports, body-worn camera video, accident reports, and local background letters are not court records; those route to Broomfield Police Records at 7 DesCombes Drive. Broomfield Police Department performs sheriff-type public safety functions locally and is led by Chief Enea Hempelmann.

• Civil records may include complaints, answers, summonses, motions, orders, judgments, transcript of judgment, satisfaction of judgment, and Register of Action entries.
• Criminal records may include complaint or information, charges, pleas, bond events, hearings, motions, disposition, sentence order, probation conditions, and ROA entries.
• Family records may include divorce decrees, parenting plans, separation agreements, support orders, and petitions.
• Probate records may include letters, wills, trusts, applications, petitions, closings, claims, and date of death information.
• Traffic records may include tickets, case numbers, charges, pleas, fines, costs, payment status, warrants, and failure-to-appear events.

What Broomfield County Court Records Show

A public case record usually identifies the court, location, parties, case number, filings, events, hearings, judge or magistrate, and outcome. Criminal and traffic records can add charge descriptions, statutes, classifications, plea, disposition, sentence date, bond, fines, costs, and restitution. Public systems may redact street addresses, Social Security numbers, victim details, protected personal identifiers, non-public party names, and sealed material.

CoCourts Register of Action Searches

CoCourts is an officially linked paid vendor for Colorado Register of Action information reported from the Judicial Branch ICON system. Its FAQ says it searches open and closed cases, including district court domestic relations, civil, and criminal records, plus county court traffic, civil, small claims, and misdemeanor records.

CoCourts is not a complete court-file viewer. Juvenile and probate case types are not included, and sealed, suppressed, confidential, and restricted information is excluded. The visible sample inventory can include status, court, case number, case type, file date, close date, judge or magistrate, agency, sentence date, parties, charges, disposition, plea, scheduled events, and Register of Action events.

Use CoCourts for quick ROA-level case summaries, then request official copies from the court clerk when a certified document is required.

Public Access Framework for Broomfield County Court Records

Colorado law generally favors inspection of public records at reasonable times unless another law restricts disclosure. C.R.S. § 13-1-119 specifically addresses judgment records and registers of action, while the Colorado Judicial Branch access guide applies court rules, Chief Justice Directives, orders, and protected categories.

The judgment-record statute is available through FindLaw's publication of C.R.S. § 13-1-119.

That statute supports public inspection of judgment records and ROA material, but it does not override sealing orders, juvenile restrictions, or protected information rules.

Fees depend on the custodian. Court copies are $0.25 per page, parties and attorneys have a $15 maximum copy fee in their own case, transcripts of judgment cost $25, certificates of satisfaction cost $20, certified or exemplified copies are $20 per document, name searches cost $5, off-site file retrieval is actual cost, and research or redaction after the first hour is $30 per hour in 15-minute increments.

Records That Are Sealed or Confidential in Broomfield County

Restricted Broomfield court records can include juvenile cases, adoption records, mental health matters, sealed or suppressed criminal records, protected victim information, financial identifiers, street addresses, and filings containing confidential personal data. Probate is a District Court matter, but the record request form warns that probate records or confidential documents may require U.S. government-issued photo ID.

Colorado uses sealing more often than expungement for adult criminal records. A person starts by identifying the court where the arrest or criminal case was filed, reviewing Colorado Judicial Branch sealing forms, and filing the petition in the court with jurisdiction. If sealing is granted, ordinary public searches no longer show the record, but courts, law enforcement, prosecutors, and agencies with statutory duties may still have authorized access.

General city and county records use Broomfield's JustFOIA public records portal. JustFOIA is for city and county public records, while court case copies still route through the Judicial Branch or Broomfield Combined Courts.

In-Person Court Record Requests

Broomfield Combined Courts is at 17 Descombes Drive, Broomfield, CO 80020. The courthouse is open Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The Clerk's Office is led by Clerk of Court Curisha Vera and is open 7:30-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-4:30 p.m., with a lunch closure from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Bring the case number if known, party names, year filed, document type, photo ID when required, and payment for copies or certification.
